Check out some of the international highlights from a record breaking Leeds Digital Festival programme launch

The Leeds Digital Festival has announced its programme for the second edition of the 2020 Festival, with a record 294 events set to take place between 21 September and the 02 October 2020.

International events make up a big part of this year’s Festival, and we’ve picked out some of the international highlights below:

1. Creating Opportunities for Smart Places through Living Labs. A European Perspective (Thursday 01 October, 09:30-11:10 BST)

Leeds City Council, in partnership with EUROCITIES, is organising an event as part of the wider Leeds Digital Festival, which will discuss how living labs can create opportunities for cities to become smart places. As well as looking at the situation in Leeds, the event will aim to share examples of best practice from other European cities, examining some of the challenges they have faced in creating and setting-up living labs, and the opportunities labs provide to support recovery and re-shape cities in a post-Covid world.

2. Responsibility in Design: Changing the Urban Landscape Wednesday (30 September, 12:00-13:00 BST)

In partnership with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (Israel) and Lille Metropole- World Design Capital, the Embassy of Israel UK and Leeds Digital Festival is presenting 5 exciting talks about design, technology and smart cities.

3. Making Art from Data (Wednesday 23 September, 13:00-14:00 BST)

Making Art from Data brings together some of the world’s leading art and tech professionals from Israel and the UK, whose practice intersects art, technology and science. With a focus on how their artistic work is inspired and influenced by tech and science, the event discusses how in an ever-changing world, never has the need for an innovative and collaborative approach to solve society’s most pressing needs, and answer the most urgent questions for our future, been more vital.

4. The Future of Tech (Tuesday 29 September, 09:00 – 13:15 BST)

In this session we will hear from some of the world’s fastest growing global tech firms, many of which are headquartered in China. They will share their journeys, global ambitions and the incredible success they are having trading across multiple platforms in international markets. Participants will also hear the opportunities they bring to local UK business.

5. Digital Sector Roundtables with Department for International Trade (Several dates)

The Department for International Trade (DIT) is organising a series of roundtable discussions that will enable tech companies to find out about international opportunities for their tech solutions. The discussions will be in a virtual format and led by DIT’s tech sector team based in London, and DIT’s commercial representatives based overseas. The four events will focus on the USA, France, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.

6. Global Britain: Global Leeds Welcomes Digital Health and Tech (Wednesday 23 September, 10:00-12:00 BST)

This event is aimed at local digital health and care businesses that are considering exporting their products and services to global markets.  Those that are active in global markets will hear about current opportunities and upcoming events that they can get involved in.
